The Spooky House on M-25…

How camping trips to the thumb of Michigan sparked an idea for my new novel, The Lady In White.

The old metal gate guarding what looked like a 1930s style home was almost in worse shape than the dilapidated house, but not by much. The fence was locked and held a neighborhood watch sign. Intrigued, I got off my bike and stood at the fence line, debating if I should hop over and check out the old property, but my desire for pizza outweighed a potential trip to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s office.

The lopsided trees were as creepy looking as the house, with its broken glass and rotting wood. I began to form a vague idea about a 1920’s bootlegger ghost who lived there and a mystery writer who could see and talk to him and potentially help him solve his death so he could move on (yes, I was a huge Ghost Whisperer and Medium fan at the time - LOL!)

I got goosebumps and that always happens that I’m on to something. The rest of the story was formed over the years and fueled by several more camping trips and bike rides up M-25. When I began to hear the tale of Minnie Quay, a ghost that roamed the shores of Lake Huron in Forester looking for her sailor lover who perished out on the great lake, the story really began to come together.

Stay tuned for Part 2 - Minnie Quay and The Forester Inn…
